To increase our efforts of public engagement via social media and communicating our science, UCT-MARiS is exploring the development of a new podcast series focused on celebrating the incredible work, people, and stories shaping marine and polar research in South Africa and beyond.

The podcast would aim to highlight the following categories within MARiS:

  • Research and publications
  • Fieldwork experiences
  • Innovation and technology
  • Ocean sustainability, governance, and biodiversity
  • Early Career and Mid-Career Researchers and their journeys, discuss potential career pathways
  • Science communication and outreach
  • The people behind the science and administration of the MARiS Centre

We would appreciate input from all the academics, research staff, ECRs and administrative staff in developing the MARiS podcast series by completing this survey here before Friday, 12 June 2026. The survey should not take longer than 10min to complete. 

Your feedback will help guide the conceptualization, structure, frequency, and dissemination of the podcast series. We also welcome anyone interested in assisting with podcast editing, media, scripting, communications, or creative support. We will be making use of the One Button Studios at UCT to assist with the production of the podcast. 

We hope this platform will help celebrate our community, broaden public engagement with ocean sciences, and inspire future generations of ocean researchers.
