Who are we?
The MARIS early career researchers (ECRs) are a group of post-graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and other early career researchers (within seven years of completing their PhD) who are currently involved in the marine interdisciplinary work at the centre or have a strong interest in conducting interdisciplinary marine research.
What do we do?
We aim to further the marine landscape of early career researchers at UCT through creating opportunities to learn, network and collaborate. Through our various activities we aim to:
- Engage with and represent ECRs within MARIS & UCT
- Contribute towards the cohesive outreach and capacity building of marine and polar ECRs at UCT and beyond.
- Develop initiatives to support and integrate ECRs who work within the foci of MARIS
Join us here. If you want to know more or get more involved with the writing of our network's blog posts or have an event or idea that would help strengthen our MARIS ECR network, get in touch with us at ecr.maris@uct.ac.za.
Meet the Current ECR Representatives and Committee
Introducing our official ECR Representatives, Ms Dayna Collins (MSc Oceanography Student/Research Assistant) and Ms Natalie Le Roux (MSc Biological Sciences Graduate and Research Assistant). The MARiS ECR representatives will work closely with the ECR working group, who will support the rest of the ECR community. The ECR rep is an ex-officio member of the MARIS management team and the scientific steering committee; not only will this position provide them with a great opportunity to represent the ECRs at a decision-making level, but it will also be a great learning experience in terms of what goes into managing a research centre, such as MARIS.
If you have queries, questions or suggestions for the ECR community, please contact them via email at ecr.maris@uct.ac.za.
