A workshop on Interdisciplinary Researcher Development, hosted by GULLS, MEOPAR and the Two Oceans Aquarium, was held from 8-10 November at the Two Oceans Aquarium, followed by a retreat to Gansbaai from 10-13 November. Workshop participants included several researchers from the Canadian centre of excellence, MEOPAR (Marine Environmental Observation Prediction and Response Network) as well as UCT and Rhodes researchers from the Belmont Forum GULLS (Global Learning for Local Solutions) project. The workshop consisted of presentations by GULLS and MEOPAR participants, including discussion around these presentations and the aims and challenges of interdisciplinary research. The Gansbaai retreat involved an exercise in developing a proposal call for interdisciplinary projects, to be used as a backbone for developing a conference call for the 2016 Canadian MEOPAR Expert Forum. The week then ended with an outreach activity at a local high school in Gansbaai.
