Call for Applications for 2012-2014 funding
The Competitive Support for Unrated Researchers (CSUR) Programme falls within the Knowledge Fields Development (KFD) Directorate of the NRF. The various programmes and initiatives within the KFD are aimed at contributing to the promotion and support of research. Its specific role is to facilitate the advancement of the frontiers of existing and the development of new fields of knowledge, and the necessary associated research capacity within the context of national research and developmental challenges and strategic initiatives.

THRIP Call for new proposals for funding
The Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP) is a partnership programme that is funded by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) and managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF). THRIP promotes partnerships in pre-commercial research between business and the public-funded research base including universities and research institutions.

Research Infrastructure Support Programmes (RISP) Grants
Call for Applications for 2011/12 funding
In 2006, the National Research Foundation (NRF) in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DST) initiated the Research Infrastructure Support Programme (RISP) Grants that support the acquisition, upgrade and development of state-of-the art research equipment. As a consequence, two sub-programmes, the National Equipment Programme (NEP) and the National Nanotechnology Equipment Programme (NNEP) were established.

Competitive Programme For Rated Researchers
The Competitive Programme for Rated researchers is a discipline-based programme which supports principally basic research as the foundation of knowledge production in the Humanities, Social and Natural Sciences. The objectives of the programme are:
- To contribute to the development of a sound fundamental basis to science and scholarly endeavour in South Africa, in the Humanities, Natural and Social Science disciplines;
- To contribute to knowledge production across the research spectrum and innovation value chain;
- To achieve world-class research and the associated human capacity; and
- To advance or develop paradigms, theories and methodological innovation across the research spectrum.
