The concept of statistical power is, however, a central part of statistics for example to interpreting statistically insignificant results. The power of a statistical test is the probability that the test will reject the null hypothesis when the alternative hypothesis is true. Power analysis can be used to calculate the minimum sample size required so that one can be reasonably likely to detect an effect of a given size if it really exists. Knowing the power of a statistical test is essential to correctly interpreting results, though power considerations are often ignored.Financial Literacy seminar *NEW*Learn how to manage your own finance, to avoid the debt trap, to draw up a savings plan and to choose the right insurance for your needs.Open Access Week *NEW*OpenUCT are hosting several exciting events for Global Open Access (OA) Week (21 – 25 Oct), a week-long event celebrated all around the world that serves as an opportunity for academics, researchers and students to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access to published research and to share what they’ve learned with colleagues. Please see attached document for detailed programme and RSVP to openuct@uct.ac.zaOnline Gateway to Funding Opportunities (RPA) *NEW*Research Professional Africa (RPA) is an essential resource that allows access to the latest global coverage of Research Funding Opportunities as well as Science and Technology news and Innovation policies.
